Stop At: East Aquhorthies Stone Circle, A96 1m West of Inverurie, Inverurie Scotland
Today we will do a bit of time travelling! We’ll start in ancient times by visiting Easter Aquhorthies one of Aberdeenshire’s most impressive Recumbent Stone Circles which dates to around 3000BC. Remember to walk around the circle 3 times in a clockwise direction before entering the centre. This RSC has great views of the Garioch near the foot of Bennachie Mountain.

Stop At: Maiden Stone, Near Chapel of Garioch A96, Inverurie Scotland
Hopping forward to Early Medieval times around 400AD and we’ll see the Maiden Stone which a prime example of a beautiful Pictisch Stone and the story of the runaway maiden.

Stop At: Kinkell Church, Ardmurdo Cottages, Inverurie AB51 0LS, UK
Next stop in time is the a troubled one; a time of witchcraft. We’ll visit the resting place of Meriorie Elphinstone at the foot of the Bass reputedly a mythical place with a dark past and a stop at Kinkell church with links to the Knights Templar.

Stop At: Udny Green Church, Ellon AB41 7RU, UK
Last on our tour is Udny Green, a beautiful little village with a unique way to protect the departed from body snatchers. A roaring trade in the early 1800’s and much effort was made to keep churchyards safe.
Dark tales and legends to be taken with a pinch of salt as in true storyteller style, all stories have evolved over time.
