After picking you up from your hotel, we will start our Ahmedabad tour with an indulgence in cup of Indian masala tea at an old tea stop located in a 100-year old suburb. Refreshed, we will now hop onto a tuk-tuk and ride past the streets to reach the Swami Narayan Temple, known for its exquisite architecture featuring intricately ornate wood (Burmese teak) carvings and columns. Walk past the “pols” of Ahmedabad, which is derived from the Sanskrit word “pratoli” meaning “gate” or “entrance”. The old city of Ahmedabad is made up of 360 pols and today about a hundred of them are still in existence. As you walk through some of the pols, you will learn about the area’s captivating history dating back three centuries, finally arriving at the Manek Chowk city square.

Ahmedabad’s distinctive chabutras, or bird feeding towers will catch your interest as we proceed towards the Jama Masjid or Jama Mosque, an impressive mosque with a captivating blend of Hindu, Muslim and Jain styles of architecture, and which is said to have been built from the demolished remains of Jain and Hindu temples.

We will then proceed for a traditional Gujarati breakfast before riding again on a tuk-tuk to see the Jhulta Minar, also known as the Swaying Minarets of Sidi Bashir Mosque. Interestingly when one tower is gently shaken, the other towers vibrates too. These two minarets (towers) have left the best of architects and design engineers intrigued and in unresolved wonder.
