Day 1 Mekele to Ertale

A lava lake, a yellow desert, camel caravan’s vicious heat … you’re going to see all this legends in your trip. Denakil Depression is one of the must see lists in Ethiopia. Start driving in the early morning to reduce the heat. You pass through a small town of Berhale where the camel caravan stops before they proceed to the north. On the road you get long camel caravans coming to the salt mine and others going out of the Danakil with their salt loaded camels. Overnight:Camping at Ertale

Day 2: Ertale to Hamdella 

We walk down from our camp at the bottom of the volcano. We walk around the Afar village “Hamadella” via Dodom desert, dodom is adventureous 80km desert and full of eye catching smooking mountain. Hamedela is 16km south of the salt Lake Assale, we will drive north to Lake Assale to see beautiful sun set, and camel caravans going back from the salt excavation fields, then we will drive to Hamdella. Overnight- Hamdella Camping

Day 3 Hamdella to Mekele via Dallol

Today you will see the famous landscape formed via volcanic eruptions. Excursion to Dallol (116 meter below sea level, one of the lowest places and the hottest in the world) is found 20 Km north from Hamedela, where great warts of twisted sulphur and iron oxide paint a yellow land scape of sulphur springs. It is where Afar people hack blocks of salt out of the ground and the camel caravans load up here. After witnessing this you can proceed to your base town Mekele. Overnight: Mekele
