Stop At: Taj Mahal, Agra 282001 India

The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum located in India, in the city of Agra. The emblematic monument of this country, it is in white marble finely chiseled. It was built between 1631 and 1653 under the command of Shah Jahan in order to shelter the tomb of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died in childbirth during the delivery of their 14th child. Mumtaz Mahal was also called Arjumand Bano Begum. The Taj Mahal is a marvel of Mughal architecture, at the crossroads of Islamic, Iranian, Persian and Indian styles.

Stop At: Agra Fort Rakabgani, Agra 282003 India

Agra fort is a massive fort that was built with red sandstone in 16th century by Akbar. Later Shah Jahan added more decorations using marbles. It is built on the bank of the river, Yamuna. The fort is about 2.5 km in circumference.
It is said that this fort had a lot of underground chambers which were destroyed by invaders including Jats, British and Marathas. Later, British used this fort as their garrison. Even today, a large part of this fort is restricted to army usage.
The first attraction inside the fort is the pearl mosque. It is not open to tourists. On the right of the mosque, you would find an open arena where kings used to listen to petitioners. If you walk up the staircase, you would find gem mosque that was built in 17th century and ladies’ bazaar. From the corridor, you can see Taj Mahal.
At the edge of the fort, you can find the octagonal tower in which Shah Jahan was held as a prisoner by his son as he requested that he wanted to spend his life looking at Taj Mahal.
The courtyard is a large garden with many underground rooms. The last attraction is Jehangir’s palace and you can find a lot of interesting items there including a black stone bowl that was used for bathing by the kings. Today, the fort stands as a remainder of a proud Mughal empire.

Stop At: Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah, Yamuna River, Agra 282001 India

Baby Taj or Itimad-ud-Daulah is a tomb that was built by mother of Shah Jahan. It has a very delicate architectural beauty. The marble lattice structures in this monument are the highlight. You can find exotic Persian styled gardens around the tomb. This tomb was built for Nur Jagan’s father. Her brother’s daughter is the well-known Mumtaz Mahal.
This tomb is famous for the stone inlay that is made out of wine glasses with perfect geometric structure. When you enter the monument, you would find a red stone arch that welcomes you to this baby Taj.

Stop At: Mehtab Bagh, Nagla Devjit Etmadpur, Agra India

This is a garden that is behind the Taj Mahal. It is called as Mehtab Bagh or The Moonlight Garden. Recent evacuation in this area revealed 25 fountains and a letter written by Aurangazeb to his father in 17th century stating the condition of the garden after a flood.
This garden is exactly square in shape. This garden was built by Babur and Shah Jahan chose the current place for Taj Mahal because he wanted a view of this garden from the Mahal. A lot of fountains, pavilions and other attractions were a part of this garden and were destroyed in a flood.
It is said that this area was chosen by Shah Jahan for building a black colour building similar to Taj Mahal for him. But, he was imprisoned by his son and could not complete his wishes.
