Monferrato Wine Tour

After meeting your certified local guide, you will be exploring the Monferrato hills, a UNESCO World Heritage site where vineyards design a unique patchwork dotted by hilltop towns and winding roads. First, visit a winery where local Barbera grapes are aged with a technique similar to the one used in Barolo. As a result, the newest DOCG appellation, named "Nizza", recently withdrawn the attention of wine critics. Enjoy a first tasting of four wines. On the way to the second winery the tour guide provides a detailed presentation of the region, referring to the elements of the landscape and to the unique soil composition, enriched by sea fossils and minerals left from a previous, ancient bay of seawater. The itinerary takes you in two wineries which differ in style, atmosphere and approach to wine-making: one is modern and surprises guests for the contemporary works of art which stand in the vineyards and in the cellar. The second stop can vary according to availability: either a small family-run producer of Moscato passito wine (located in a superb location overlooking the hills and the town of Canelli), or a sparkling wine producer with a tour of the underground cellars excavated under the hill and listed as a UNESCO site for the charming architecture and hard work of men who created these artificial tunnels.
