About this activity

You will meet your driver at the Villa D’Amelia Relais and he will drive you to the first winery on board of a comfortable Mercedes vehicle. You will reach the Giuseppe Domenico Vajra winery in Vergne, a small village between La Morra and Barolo, where the vineyards stray up to 400 meters altitude. The estate is now run by Giuseppe Domenico’s son, Aldo Vajra, with his wife and children: now the estate counts more than 40 hectares of vines, 10 of them are about Nebbiolo for Aldo's Barolo, located in such prized vineyards as Bricco delle Viole, Fossati, La Volta and Coste di Vergne.

The elevated growing conditions there mean that grapes ripen later than in nearby vineyards, but possess an innate elegance as a result. The dry micro climate also results in relatively small yields helping to ensure grapes of excellent quality. This involves diverse operation, ranging from semi-sweet sparkling wines to single-vineyard Barolo. Aldo adheres to old-style winemaking methods, such as ageing his Barolo in barrel for three and half years before bottling.

You will have the opportunity to taste 4 wines, including Barolo, and after this great experience you will reach the second winery, Cascina Boschetti, run by Sergio Gomba.

The first things that will catch your eye are the tidy rows of Nebbiolo vineyards of the Boschetti hill, which rises above the red roofs of the village houses and the proud, superb merlons of the castle of the Falletti family, marquises of Barolo (1307-1838).

After a guided winery tour, you will enjoy an amazing light lunch sitting on the terrace, overlooking the vineyards and Barolo castle. You will taste four wines, including Barolo, paired with local delicacies as cold cuts, cheeses, tuna viel and bunet. Then you will have a nice walk in the Barolo area, before coming back home, around 3pm.
