Day 1: Fatima - Mira D´Aire Caves - Batalha - Alcobaça

Stop At: Basilica de Nossa Senhora do Rosario de Fatima, Fatima, Santarem District, Central Portugal
The Sanctuary of our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima is the answer to the call of Our Lady of the Rosary, already alluded to on August 13, 1917 and expressly asked in the apparition of October 13, of that year to Lucia de Jesus, Francisco Marto and Jacinta Marto: «I want to tell you that a chapel is to be built here in my honour. I am the Lady of the Rosary» (Fist Memoir of Sister Lucia). The little chapel was constructed in 1919 in the place of the apparitions of 1917 at the Cova da Iria and, since then, the place of the Shrine was built up, in response to a significant inflow of pilgrims. There are several spaces around the Sanctuary like the place of apparitions, place of cult and prayer, that can visited during your stay.

The Mira de Aire Caves are the largest in Portugal and are certainly a great option for those looking for a different tour. With 11km of extension, of which 600m can be visited, the caves were elected as one of the 7 Natural Wonders of Portugal. The tour is going descending, through 683 steps and although it looks a lot, it is not hard because there are several levels. During the route, several stops are made in many galleries, where the guide gives explanations including on how the elements in there are constantly formed, composing that scenario. It is a unique beauty.

Day 2: Alcobaça - Nazaré - Óbidos

See the magnificent 14th century tombs of King Pedro I and Lady Ines de Castro, the Portuguese royal couple whose tragic love story has deeply moved the world for centuries and has inspired the works of many artists.

Óbidos is one of the most perfect examples of our medieval fortress. It s in olden times, the town is entered through the southern gate of Santa Maria, embellished with eighteenth-century azulejo decoration. Inside the walls, which at sunset take on a golden colouring, one can sense a cheerful medieval ambience of winding streets, old whitewashed houses bordered with blue or yellow, Manueline embrasures and windows, reminding us that King D. Manuel I (sixteenth century) carried out major works here, and masses of colourful flowers and plants.
