Private Tour: 2-Day Trip to Cairo from Alexandria Including Giza Pyramids, Sakkara, and Egyptian Museum

Day 1: Alexandria - Cairo

Begin with morning pickup from your Alexandria hotel, cruise port, or airport, and travel south to Cairo by private, air-conditioned car, minivan, or bus (depending on size of your group).

After a roughly 3-hour drive, arrive in Cairo and visit the Giza Plateau, home to the UNESCO-listed pyramids. With your Egyptologist guide, view the pyramids of Cheops, Chephren, and Mykerinus as you hear fascinating facts and secrets about the 4,500-year-old pharaonic tombs, the last remaining of the Ancient Wonders of the World.

Enjoy an optional short camel ride, and then view the Great Sphinx, the massive human-headed statue traditionally held to guard the pyramid of Chephren, and the Valley Temple, thought to be Chephren’s mummification complex.

After lunch at a local restaurant (own expense), travel to the ancient necropolis of Sakkara. Here, admire the Step Pyramid of Djozer, the world’s oldest stone structure, learning how it was constructed in around 2,630 BC for King Djozer.

Your day then ends with a hotel drop-off in Cairo, with time free to relax and have dinner (own expense) at the restaurant of your choice.

Day 2: Cairo - Alexandria (B)

After breakfast, meet your guide and visit Cairo’s stunning Egyptian Museum, the world’s largest repository of Egyptian antiquities. View the museum’s highlights as your guide provides intriguing background, and admire the treasures of Tutankhamun, including his gold funerary mask.

Then, after lunch (own expense) at a local restaurant, enjoy a 1-hour cruise on the River Nile on a felucca (traditional sail boat), admiring Cairo's skyline from the water.

Finally, learn about the ancient craft of papyrus-making and pick up souvenirs (own expense) at a papyrus workshop and gift shop before returning to Alexandria, where your trip concludes at the start point.
