About this activity
In this guided tour, we suggest having fun while exploring the University of Alicante on electrical bikes. The University is located in San Vincent del Raspeig, 10km (6 miles) away from Alicante’s city center. The departure point is located in Calle Mayor, in the old town, just 1 minute walking distance from the Town Hall.

Before arriving at the campus, we will go through popular parts of the city. The University of Alicante is one of the most attractive universities of Spain. Inside, you will feel a very authentic student atmosphere. It’s well recommended to explore every corner, especially his faculties built by famous architects such as Álvaro Siza y Alfredo Payá.

During the visit, you will discover a collection of statues by, for example, Arcadi Blasco (Diálogos), José Díaz Azorín (Dibujar el espacio), Antoni Miró (Batalla de Almansa), or José Ángel Merino (Armonía). You will meet the vestiges of the disappeared Aerodrome of Rabassa, its control tower and the structure of the main shed which has been changed to a palmetum, with different types of subtropical palm trees. This place was the first airport Alicante has ever had. It was the base of the pioneer French postal airline (before airmail existed), the Latécoère Company, for which pilot and writer of The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, worked. That is why he used to land there in 1926.

During the tour of the campus, you will be free to visit the Museum of the University of Alicante (MUA). Apart from his permanent collection, including the contemporary artistic work from creator like Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Eduardo Chillida, Eusebio Sempere, Arcadio Blasco, etc., the museum also hosts about twenty temporary exhibitions every season, including modern art paintings. After that, we will go through the rocks garden, a distinct place where you can find rocks from different areas of Spain, as well as the cactus garden. Before going back to Alicante, we will finish the visit with El Bosque Illustrado (The Illustrated Forest), where we could see the local fauna and flora, but also a reproduction of one of the most beautiful statues of Spain, la Dama de Elche.
