The Central market of Alicante, with its modernist-inspired elements was built under the supervision of J. Vidal Ramos between 1911 and 1912, on top of the 18th century walls that surrounded Alicante.

The Principal Theatre ( Teatro Principal de Alicante) was opened in 1847, and it is an excellent venue. The main façade is neoclassical. Its interior, built according to Italian style at the time, is divided into three clearly different areas: lobby, the horseshoe-shaped cavea and stage.

The former gateway to Alicante, once known as “Hanging Square” as it was here that justice used to be imparted until 1810. Fortunately, today’s visitors will “only” find a pleasant sqaure with centenary ficus trees .

The Nativity Scene Museum is located in a traditional house typical of the city’s Old Quarter. The Contemporary art museum of Alicante- MACA is housed in the city’s oldest surviving civil building. In the baroque style, it dates back to 1685 and is located next to the Santa María basilica in the old town of Alicante City. It was originally designed as a cereals warehouse but was also used as a business school before finally becoming a museum.
The MACA Museum houses an important collection of 20th century art mostly comprised of works donated by Eusebio Sempere. There are also works by Chillida, Picasso, Dalí and Miró, among others.

Although there are still question marks over the origins of these wells, it is believed that at least one of them dates from the times of Moorish rule while the others are from the 16th century. However, they were given their current layout in the 19th century, in an attempt to lessen the effects of the prolonged droughts suffered by the city.

Visitors can admire its ornamental elements such as the barley-sugar columns on the facade or its two towers. Inside there are several remarkable rooms such as the Salón Azul styled from the period of Spain’s Queen Isabel, the Salón de Plenos meeting hall and a chapel in which mass is held.

Known as “Casa Carbonell” or “Carbonell House” and standing at Number 1 on the Explanada de España esplanade, this is one of the most striking buildings in Alicante. Built by J. Vidal Ramos between 1922 and 1925, Casa Carbonell is said to have been constructed upon the orders of a textiles manufacturer from the nearby town of Alcoy, Enrique Carbonell. The building bears testimony to the wealth of Alcoy textiles manufacturers during World War One.

Construction began on the San Nicolás Co-Cathedral in the year 1600, replacing a building that had stood their previously. It is built in the Herrerian renaissance style and is located in the heart of the city.

The Fogueres Festival Museum explores the evolution of Alicante’s most representative festival, the Fogueres de Sant Joan Bonfires celebration held in June, which has been officially declared as of Interest to International Tourism.
Here visitors can see collections of “ninots indultados” (the effigies that managed to escape the flames), mock bonfires, typical costumes, etc. The museum also boasts an audiovisual hall showing clips of this festival from years ago.
