Day 1: Alice Springs - Uluru (L, D)
Departing Alice Springs bright and early, we hit the road on our adventure of a lifetime. (For those commencing the tour at Uluru we will collect you from the Outback Pioneer Hotel or meet you from your flight at the airport).
Our journey begins heading south to Erldunda travelling through the Waterhouse and James Ranges with a stop at the Camel Farm for refreshments and a Camel ride if you're keen (own expense). We stop at Mount Ebenezer Roadhouse where you can view or purchase Aboriginal artifacts. On the way to Uluru we stop to view Atila (Mount Connor), a mesa tableland and the first significant rock formation of our trip.
After a stop for lunch and our arrival at the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, we travel to the base of Uluru where your guide will lead you on an interpretive walk, hearing of the Aboriginal law and religion (Tjukurpa). Continuing on, we meet our local Aboriginal Guide who will provide a once in a lifetime authentic Indigenous cultural experience with an interpretive walk to Mutitjulu Waterhole where you will hear the stories of the unique landscapes, art and culture of the local custodians, the Anangu people. We conclude at the Cultural Centre, where you may explore the displays and learn of the flora and fauna of this unique area.
Experience the famous changing colours of Uluru at sunset, complete with sparkling wine and nibbles. It's a great time to kick back and contemplate the day and the vastness of the desert. Afterwards settle in at our remote private camp, complete with our signature Endless Star dining experience before retiring to your swag under the amazing night sky or your comfortable safari tent complete with beds.
Day 2: Uluru - Kata Tjuta (B)
Rising early, take a short walk to a lookout close to our campsite to view sunrise over Uluru and Kata Tjuta without the hustle and bustle of the public viewing areas before heading off to Kata Tjuta, an Aboriginal word for “many heads” and a walk through the "Valley of the Winds" to explore its domes of which there are 36 in total. We walk through creek beds, domes and beautiful wilderness. After the return transfer to Ayers Rock Resort your Red Centre experience comes to an end.

My sister and I went on this tour last week while in Australia and had a great time. Despite last minute changes to our pick-up location due to flight issues, the tour company was flexible and worked to accommodate us! Our tour guide, Alicia, was knowledgeable about the Anangu—we enjoyed learning about her connection to the Northern Territory and Australia's recent efforts to be more respectful of Aboriginal culture—as well as the ecology and geology of the region. The only downside to the tour was sharing space with those who couldn't care less about the Anangu's statement to visitors not to climb Uluru (thankfully that won't be an option next month) or signs indicating sacred sites with no photos taken. If we were to book another tour to the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, we would instead look for one that requires the group to be mindful of whose land they are visiting and honor their rules.
I had booked an overnight at Uluru and had inflatable mattress sleeping bag etc ready in my bag. For some reason officially : Truck problem pure lie I was put in another group I found at the airport the group which was going to sleep under the stars was average much younger than me, I was put in a group of people ranging from 30 to probably 55-60, I am 73 but I have been trekking 12 days in Sahara Desert two years ago 2015 and many times all along my life. So, the difference of age was not a problem for me, but was probably one for the Tour Operator. So we did nor sleep next to Uluru in the bush, but in pre-installed square cabins some 20 km from the Rock, with a kitchentoilets block. Everything was nice, but I removed one star from my review because of missing this open-air night I was expecting against 12 nights in the sand / rocks in Algeria Desert near Libyan border !!!.
We had a great time. We felt like we learned a lot about the culture surrounding Uluru. Got to walk around a lot, watch the sunset and sunrise. We also enjoyed sleeping in the swags and enjoying the stars. Food was great, bathroom facilities were great as well. Tour guides were very knowledgeable and friendly. Would definitely recommend to others. We only wish we could have stayed longer and done the longer tour.
Jules the tour leader is a very knowledgable guy who was able to explain all the history and folklore of the indigenous people of the Uluru area. The big problem during the travel was the PA System in the Convered Truck being used as a 'bus' not up to the job. Uluru is magnificent and well worth the trip to get to see it at sundown and dawn. However the cheap plastic toothbrush holder cups for the bubbly when all around have champagne flutes signals the cheapness of this trip. Getting up at 4.30am is not a problem when the camp, that you stay at, is so basic. Having no lights to even get to the tents, or to get changed by, is not good. This is such a basic amenity to provide? The swag is not as warm as Jules suggests in the middle of winter! The 'guests' paying customers are expected to do all the cleaning up and even cooking their own lunches. So if you expect Glamping then this is not for you.
