About this activity
Walking down the history and have a typical lunch in a Roman Domus. Everyone knows about Pompeii and the story of its dramatic destruction. Everyone recognizes it as one of the most mysterious and fascinating archaeological sites of all time. Everything in this location speaks about the history of Ancient Rome. Preserved ruins are an exceptional snapshot of the art, livelihood and daily life of the ancient Romans. To visit its houses and streets is almost like to make a journey into the past. Here on the site, there are numerous traces of what the daily life of Romans was like before the eruption in A.D. 79. This tour gives you the possibility to visit one of the most famous tourist attraction in the world. You will have a lunch in a typical Thermopolia: a sort of snack bar which was widely popular during that time. Here Romans served drinks and hot food. Inhabitants of Pompeii ate their lunches on the go. Lots of those taverns were located on the street called Via dell’Abbondanza that you can visit during our tour. Another restaurant included in our tour is the Thermopolium of Vetutius Placidus. It has a similar architectural structure to that of a typical Roman Domus. A beautiful garden with the same flower species that used to be planted by ancient Romans and the dimmed lights in the restaurant give a peaceful atmosphere. Diners sit on wooden chairs around a wooden table as the Romans used to do. Plates and glasses are made of authentic terracotta, the waiters are dressed as senators or Roman maids and all the dishes are cooked according to the recipes of the famous Roman chief and gourmet “Marco Gavio Apicio”. You will taste typical ancient Roman foods such as whole grain bread, lupines in laurel leaf, duck, vegetable soup, eggs, pork shank, sweet cake and “half amphora” of spiced wine.
