About this activity
Meet your hosts Vivek and Sangita at their beautiful home in Chand Avenue, Amritsar and enjoy a refreshing tea or coffee as per your choice as you settle in and get chatting with them.

Vivek and Sangita are a typical Punjabi family, born and brought up in Amritsar. The lady of the house, Sangita is a homemaker and has been cooking since the last 35 years for her family and friends. Vivek is a business man who had a flourishing textile business in Jaipur in the past and continues it on a small scale in Amritsar now along with running a successful Bed and Breakfast.

What you can expect at this family’s home is pure bliss, extremely friendly and hospitable, Vivek and Sangita will leave no stone unturned to make you feel at home and take back memories that will be cherished for a lifetime!

After settling in and enjoying the refreshments and snacks, you can join Sangita in the kitchen and help her whip up some magic, join in with her and cook some Matar Aloo (Peas and potatoes dish) and make some Indian breads like Makki di Roti (which is made with cornflour and served hot with a scoop of pure ghee (clarified butter) on it!) or get to learn the Lachha Paratha (layered, crispy, flakey yet soft textured Indian flatbread).

Sangita will be happy to show you how Indian spices can be used to cook up a simple yet delicious and nutritious meal.

You will then enjoy a true Punjabi meal with seasonal dishes like Paneer Subzi (Cottage Cheese dish), Matar Aloo (peas and potato dish), Sarson da Saag (The goodness of Mustard Greens and Spices), Dal Makhani (A rich but aromatic mixed lentil curry, cooked on slow fire for hours with lots of butter and cream to give it that amazing earthen flavour) along with various types of Indian flatbreads. End the meal with traditional desserts like Kheer (Rice pudding) and Shakar ka Paratha (Organic jaggery smeared on Indian flatbread and topped with clarified butter!) - This one is sheer bliss! :)

The entire experience at Vivek and Sangita’s home can last for about 2-4 hours.

Please note: This is not a professional cooking class. This is an unique opportunity to interact with a local and learn some tips and tricks of Indian cooking and enjoy a lovely home-cooked meal over great conversions.
