Stop At: Golden Temple Road Atta Mandi, Katra Ahluwalia, Amritsar 143001 India

In fact, the iconic Golden Temple is just a tiny component of this enormous gurdwara complex, known as Harmandir Sahib to Sikhs. The spiritual focus is the tank surrounding the gleaming main shrine–the Amrit Sarovar from which Amritsar takes his name, excavated in 1577 by the fourth Sikh guru, Ram Das. Ringed by a marble walkway, the tank is said to have healing powers, and pilgrims come from across the world to bathe in its sacred waters.

Stop At: Jallianwala Bagh, Golden Temple Rd, Jallan Wala Bagh, Katra Ahluwalia, Amritsar, Punjab 143006, India

The historic Jallianwala Bagh, a few minutes walk from Harmandir Sahib, is forever notorious for the British massacre of innocent people. The gardens are green, well manicured and colorful.
