Liqueur distilling has been a Dutch specialty for centuries. It was in the 17th century, when the great VOC trade ships returned from the far east with unheard of spices and herbs, that liqueur making became an art for in the Netherlands.
Our enchanting tasting session is led by a distillery expert who will share the exciting stories behind some legendary liqueurs like Hansje in the Cellar, Brides’ Tears and Half and Half.
To follow there will be a 45 minute Tasting and selection of two liqueurs, two genevers, a brandy and a bitter. The entire tasting session will take place in an authentic 17th Century Dutch Proeflokaal (Dutch for tasting tavern). This is an amazing example of 17th century Dutch architecture and interior design. It has maintained its high standards for more than three centuries. The staff even still insist on the traditional bow to take the first sip from the traditional tulip glass!
