Discover 5 UNESCO World Monuments and more hidden treasures in the Amsterdam Lake District.
Departing at This is Holland (across the Central Station) at 9 o'clock it will take about 20 minutes to escape the busy city center. Driving through the world famous Beemster and observing the defense line of Amsterdam the day starts with 2 UNESCO monuments. Then, a stop at the world famous Afsluitdijk. Where you will look out over both the IJssel lake and smell the salty air of the Wadden sea, UNESCO World heritage.
Thereafter discover Allingawier. A picturesque museum village where history comes to life. A local guide will tell you all about it. Enjoy a typical Dutch Farmers Lunch (included in the tour). Then enjoy some free time in Hindeloopen, a beautiful scenic city with only 900 inhabitants. Meet locals in their old Dutch costumes. Walk over the dike, visit a traditional Hindelooper painting shop or the museum. Then continue to another UNESCO treasure. The biggest, still in operation, Steam Pumping Station in the world. The Ir. D.F. Woudagemaal.
Finish the day with UNESCO, culture and history on the former island of Schokland. With a photo stop at the VOC-ship the Batavia and look out over the unique swamp area of the Oostvaardersplassen. At around 18.30 we will be back in Amsterdam.
