E-fatbike tour of Volendam & Marken including boat cruise

The best way to explore the countryside of Amsterdam is to go by E-fatbike. Explore Volendam, Katwoude, Monnickendam and Marken and its beautiful surroundings and cultural and culinary highlights on your super cool E-fatbike within only a couple of hours. From Volendam you can ride along the lake, but it’s also possible to explore the polder (low lands of the Netherlands). A nice opportunity is this special arrangement: by E-fatbike you ride from Volendam via Katwoude to Monnickendam and afterwards up on to Marken.

Start your tour in de famous old-harbour of Volendam where you can see the traditional houses, soak up the fishing village atmosphere and pick up souvenirs for those at home or a memento for yourself. See the famous maze ‘Doolhof’ in Volendam with small streets and cute little houses. In Volendam you also have the opportunity to dress up in the Volendam costume and get photographed. The picture will be a great souvenir from your visit to this unique village.

Cruise on to Katwoude. This nearby village is both nationally and internationally known for its cheese farms. Many tourists visit this tiny village to see how the famous Dutch cheese is made. Visit the traditional cheese farm and see the whole process of cheese making; from cow to cheese. There is also the opportunity to taste a variety of different types of cheese. Other sights in Katwoude include a classic Dutch windmill.

Monnickendam, with its well-preserved historical centre, is the third stop on this half-day trip. Take your time walking the streets of the city centre and head to the harbour to check out the boats. Stop at one of the canal side terraces for a refreshing drink and a snack. 

Continue your tour from Monnickendam to the former island Marken. Marken is a stunning town with lovely bridges over the small canals and really nice wooden façades. A visit to Marken is an unforgettable experience, due to the characteristic houses, the pleasant ambiance and the beautiful view over the Gouwzee and the Markermeer. 

From Marken you can take the boat back to Volendam. The Volendam-Marken Express is departing each 30 minutes from Marken to Volendam and it is possible to bring your E-fatbike on the ship. After a 30 minutes cruise you will be back in Volendam where you can drive underneath the dike back to the rental company to bring back your E-Fatbike.
