About this activity
This fun 3-hour adventure starts from a pickup location of your choice. First, you'll visit historic Ship Creek where Anchorage was first settled as a tent city in 1911. Here, you'll find a thriving urban salmon stream where downtown anglers often catch salmon on their lunch breaks from work. This is also the location of the Anchorage rail terminal for the historic Alaska Railroad.

Your guide will then take you to Earthquake Park and Point Woronzof, where you can take in the stunning view of the Anchorage skyline set against the backdrop of the Chugach Mountains and Cook Inlet. You may even catch sight of a moose along the roadway! Next, stop at the busiest seaplane base in the world, Lake Hood. Watch as local bush pilots expertly land their planes and taxi to their landing docks. Following this stop, you'll visit the incomparable Turnagain Arm and Beluga Point. Take in the majestic scenery and scout for Beluga whales, Dall sheep, mountain goats, black bears, and bald eagles.

Your journey continues into Potter's Marsh and the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge, a protected wildlife habitat home to many migratory species of birds in the summer. Climb the stunning vistas of Flattop Mountain and get a birdseye view of the Municipality of Anchorage (which is larger than Rhode Island!) as well as views of Sleeping Lady, Denali, and the Alaska Range on clear days. As the tour comes to an end, you'll head back downtown where your guide will point out the best restaurants, bars, gift shops, and art galleries before bidding farewell. A perfect introduction to the diverse area that is Anchorage!

Bill was a great guide. His passion for Anchorage really came through. We got a sense of the history of the place and an appreciation of the fabulous countryside. We also saw Beluga whales! All in all if you only have a few hours in Anchorage this is an excellent way to spend an afternoon or evening.

Amber picked us up at the cruise ship shuttle drop off in downtown Anchorage;on time and clearly identified. We covered a lot of ground seeing historical sights as well as scenic vistas. Amber was well informed and shared her enthusiasm of the Anchorage lifestyle with us. Plenty of stops for pictures and refreshments if we wanted. Well worth the money.

First off, our tour-guide Kristen, was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and friendly and she was great with our three year old. Tours with a toddler can be tough potty breaks, boredom, etc and Kristen accommodated for us very well. Regarding the tour, having never been to Anchorage, it sounded pretty exciting... But, Anchorage is actually not that exciting, especially when it's cloudy and rainy, which it was all the day of our tour. Can't control the weather. I very much enjoyed learning the history of Anchorage as well as the contemporary oddities that set it apart from the lower-48. I would recommend the tour. However, since it is a private tour and thus flexible, I'd recommend they offer some alternate points of interest if the stunning vistas are not visible due to weather.

The tour was great and the guide gave a lot of useful information. Only problem was as we were leaving the tour one of the party was confused and did not know that the tour had been paid for in full. The person paid him again in full and the guide did not say anything. Great tour, poor form.

We had a great time with Kristen from Great Land Adventures. There were last minute changes but they handled it like pro's and made me feel like I wasn't a pain but they were there to see that we had a good time. Which we did!! thank you again Steve and Kristen

We loved our Anchorage tour with Kristen - 3 of us are retired teachers, and all 8 of us bonded with her immediately. She managed to take us everywhere on the list and also work in additional photo ops for me at scenes from my high school days. Her lunch recommendation was brilliant, and her sharing of information regarding local history and issues was most welcome. Top marks all around!

We went on this private tour during our short stay in Anchorage before traveling north to Talkeetna, Denali, Healy, Fairbanks and Artic Circle. Loved the tour and the different activities that were included Cook Inlet, Flattop Mountain, Potter Marsh Bird Sanctuary, Lake Hood, Earthquake Park, Resolution Park, Ship Creek, Beluga Point with Turnagain Arm, and Point Woronzorf. I would highly recommend for people staying in Anchorage to take this tour early in your vacation to get an ideal of what you would like to go back and see because we did not stay at anyplace very long. Our driver was excellent and gave us a history of Anchorage and the points of interest he took us to. He even took us to see Star the reindeer.
