Acatenango Day Hike

Want to do a real adventure climb full of beauty and diversity but not too much time to spare? This is the excursion for you! 5am to 5pm- up and back in a day! Climbing Acatenango is a challenge but it is a reward in beauty and a rare Guatemalan experience that you will never forget. At O.X. we feel it is the most beautiful and diverse volcano in all of Central America. You will ascend 5,000ft (1500m) over roughly 4 miles and through 4 different temperate zones (high farmland, cloud forest, high-alpine forest, and volcanic) and return the same way. The climb is steep so prepare yourself mentally for a very physically demanding hike (especially purgatory). Have lunch at 13,000ft and watch as Volcan Fuego growls, moans and coughs up huge plumes of smoke and shoots red hot rocks the size of Volkswagen vans hundreds of feet in the air. All in a days work with Acatenango's 5 to 5 tour.
