About this activity
Discover the work of Ecofiltro, which works to prevent illness due to water contamination and reduce deforestation in Guatemala. Both of these issues are linked to the lack of drinkable water. Since 97% of lakes and rivers in the country are contaminated, drinking unheated water means illness and possible premature death, a fate 1 in 20 Guatemalan children already face. In addition, deforestation is a major issue in Guatemala due to the demand for firewood needed to boil water. Through the use of water filters that remove 99.99% of bacteria, Ecofiltro combats this problem and reduces deforestation as well as harmful carbon emissions.
Take a tour of the factory that produces these amazing water filters as Ecofiltro staff explain in detail how they work. Watch and interact with a team of dedicated Guatemalan workers, who create each filter from scratch using environmentally-friendly methods. Finally, learn about the nationwide carbon offset program that aims to decrease the burning of natural fuels, and explore an organic garden. Every tour participant’s booking provides one water filter for Guatemalans in need, so join in saving lives and habitats today and help make a difference!
