Itinerary

Day 1: Kandy - Wilpattu National Park - Kalpitiya

Stop At: Wilpattu National Park, off Chilaw Anuradhapura road, Saliyapura, Anuradhapura 50008 Sri Lanka
Apart from other national parks in Sri Lanka Wilpattu NP has a distinctive geographical feature called "Willus" (Natural lakes), sand-rimmed water basins or depressions that fill with rainwater overtime. Six main lakes can be found throughout the Willpatu national park, it is largest wildlife sanctuaries in Sri Lanka, and spans an area of approx. 1317 square kilometres. Park's elevation ranges from 0 to 152 meters. Since it Located in the Northwest coast lowland dry zone of Sri Lanka The Annual Rainfall is about 1000mm and the annual temperature is about 27.2 degrees, but you will feel like somewhere around 32 degrees due to humidity and other factors. Unlike other wildlife parks in Sri Lanka Wilpattu holds the unique complexity of over 50 wetlands aka Villus. Villus are the main topographical attraction of the park, Natural lakes with shallow depth filled with heavy downpours of northeastern monsoon during September to December, Villus with an abundance of water is a fine example of weather patterns prevail throughout the park, drought only comes around May to early September, annual temperatures in the Park peak during the month of April which is 32 Celsius .

Day 2: Kalpitiya - Negombo

Stop At: Kalpitiya Beach, Kalpitiya, Sri Lanka
Kalpitiya is regarded as one of the best location for dolphin watching in Sri Lanka. Usually, dolphin watching tours are conducted in the early morning. here you can observe this highly intelligent, social, creatures in their natural habitat with abundance. if you set sail from Kalpitiya to few nautical miles to continental shelf you will encounter this amusing, friendly creature who will swim alongside you. Kalpitiya is also a perfect place to discover the north western part of indian ocean. When the sea is calm in the morning hours (from Nov till April ) one can take a boat with certified drivers/guides to observe groups of dolphins. The maximum number of guests per boat is 6.

Stop At: Dutch Fort Of Kalpitiya, Palavi-Kalpitiya Rd., Kalpitiya 61360 Sri Lanka
Of all the remaining Dutch forts built in Sri Lanka, Kalpitiya is one of the few that has been preserved entirely. The yellow bricks that have been used to fortify the fort is said to have been brought from Holland.

Day 3: Negombo - Airport

Stop At: Negombo Fish Market, Negombo Sri Lanka
The Lellama in the bustling beach town of Negombo comes alive even before the crack of dawn. Its endless hectic frenzy in the early morning is a beautiful spectacle of camaraderie and thriving trade that treasures the sea’s bounty. It is the second largest fish market in Sri Lanka. The Negombo fish market is a microcosm of the local fishery industry. It gives you an unpretentious insight into the local fisher community. The best time to visit the Lellama is at dawn, around 6:00 am to really understand the volume and scope of the operation. You will see a multitude of boats full of fresh fish coming in and lowering their sails. The smaller fishing boats usually come first, followed by the larger vessels. You can see their nets being pulled ashore and the catch shaken out of nets to be cleaned, scaled, gutted, salted and dried in the sun. You’ll see the loading of fish on small-time fish vendors’ bikes, who in turn sell their fish to consumers.

Stop At: Dutch Canal, Custom House Road, Negombo 22100 Sri Lanka
The Dutch canal flows through the city of Negombo onto the Muthurajawela Marsh. Known as the ‘Swamp of Royal Treasure’, Muthurajawela borders the Negombo Lagoon to the south and Kelani river to the north. The one and a half hour boat ride takes you along the Dutch Canal, through the marsh onto the lagoon. Along the way you will be able to fill your camera with images of water monitors, crocodiles, Brahminy kites, monkeys and a host of other fish, reptiles, birds and small mammals.

Stop At: Dutch Fort, Esplanade Road, Negombo 22100 Sri Lanka
Close to the seafront near the lagoon mouth in Negombo are the ruins of the old Dutch fort, which has a fine gateway inscribed with the date 1678.Initially the Fort was built by the Portuguese. But in 1672 it was captured by Dutch and completely rebuilt in pentagonal form. The fortress is situated on a narrow spit between the lagoon and the Gulf, were surrounded by a moat and get inside was via the hanging bridge.

Stop At: Angurukaramulla Temple, Temple road, Negombo 22100 Sri Lanka
The Angurukaramulla Temple is a place of Buddhist and Hindu worship which is a short way inland from the city of Negombo. The temple features a magnificent dragon entrance with the glorious view of a 6m long reclining Buddha statue. Further the temple contains ancient murals painted on the walls dating back to the ancient centuries. There is also a historic library undoubtedly over 300 years old.
