About this activity
The tour starts at 9am from the local operators office, then you'll board a climate-controlled vehicle for the trip to southern Armenia, with the first stop of the day at the historic village of Areni. Tour a wine factory to learn what makes Areni wines so distinctive, and see the distinctive architecture of the 14th-century St. Astvatsatsin Church.

Continue to Tatev Monastery, once the wealthiest medieval monastery in Armenia and a strategic center of the kingdom. Discover the secret passageways that linked the monastery and outside world during tumultuous times, then ride the Wing of Tatev, an aerial tramway stretching 3.5 miles (5.7 km.) across the River Vorotan Gorge, linking Tatev Monastery with a hill by the village of Halidzor.

Take a break for lunch at a restaurant near Wings of Tatev, choosing between four set menus (own expense). The last stop of the day is Khndzoresk, a village that's famous for natural stone carpets and homes built directly into mountain caves, which also served as a stronghold for Syunik during the 18th-century national liberation movement.

Following your time at Khndzoresk, begin the return trip to Yerevan, where this tour concludes at the original departure point.

I saw a lot of good things on this tour but I felt cheated when, after a long bumpy ride, we were only given 40 minutes to explore Khndzoresk caves area, most of that time spent descending/ascending 400+ wooden stairs. I also felt sorry for a woman behind me who had trouble climbing the stairs to meet the unreasonable deadline. This tour could use better time management.

Whilst Areni is just a stop on the way Tatev and Khndozoresk are great! Great landscape! Must see! A long day about 14 hours on the road, but I would not want to miss it.

Our trip was simply superb and I enjoyed each and every second. The tour itinerary was very well planned in a way that we were not at all tired or bored at the end of the day. The guide was perfect and her knowledge about the tourist spots and the way she patiently explained those to us, really deserves a special mention. Kindly convey my regards to her as well and to the tour driver too.

The trip and the places are really nice. the Tatev ropeway and monastery are amazing and the Khndzoresk bridge and caves are really impressing. the guide was really nice and gave us all the needed information about the places we visited and all the provinces we passed through during the trips. she even gave us explanations about the relation of Armenia with the surrounding countries.

It was a nice experience. Khndzoresk was just magnificent, so Tatev monastery. The only problem with the organizers was that in the description they include restaurant and the impression is that it's included in the price but it is not. You have to pay for the restaurant.

A long trip but completely worth it - stunning scenery, fascinating history and a very good guide the tour is run in English and Russian. The cable car to Tatev is a most scenic way to arrive! And the village carved into the Khndzoresk valley walls is unique. We went in early November... a longer day-length would have given us more time at the last stop but we still got to see a lot.

This was definitely the best tour during all of our stay! Everything about it was amazing - our guide Khachatur, who was very friendly and passionate about his work, the stunning scenery on the way, the delicious food at the restaurant in Tatev Wings and of course, the crowning glory of the trip - the longest cable car in the world. I have traveled a fair bit, but I can absolutely honestly say that what you'll see during those 15 minutes in the cable car, will stay with you forever. Next time we are visiting Armenia, I would definitely go back to enjoy this experience for the second time. Khndzoresk Bridge is for people who like a bit of 'extreme' fun - you have to go up and down more than 450 steps which are attached on the side of a mountain and then make your way over a rope bridge that sways from each gust of wind. However, when seeing the locals come there, bringing the elderly and their kids, a sudden dose of bravery took over me as well. it was an exhilarating experience, especially because at that point it was already twilight and you could see bats flapping everywhere. It is a long excursion mostly because of the distance, but because of the lovely lot of people, informative guide and comfortable mini-bus, it didn't seem like such a long way. A must go to excursion when in Armenia, definitely!
