Khor Virap is the closest monastery to mount Ararat. It is located on one of the hills of the ancient city Artashat which was one of 13 ancient capitals of Armenia. Earlier on this hill was located the Royal prison, where for a long time was imprisoned the first Catholicos (Patriarch) of Armenia Gregory the Illuminator. "Khor" is translated from Armenian as deep, "Virap" - dungeon.

Further on our way we are going to have a pleasant stop in the wine village Areni. We will have an opportunity to visit Areni winery with tasting of various fruit wines and try several kinds of fruit vodka.

Stop At: Noravank Monastery, Areni Armenia

Passing the picturesque gorge of Amagu, we will find ourselves on the territory of one of the most inaccessible monasteries of medieval Armenia - Noravank. "Nor" is translated from Armenian as new, "Wank"; — monastery. The Church is located among the red rocks, which gives it a special atmosphere.

The next one on our route the flight on the cable car "Wings of Tatev", which is listed in the Guinness Records book as the longest reversible cable car in the world. You will have a unique opportunity to enjoy the scenery of the picturesque gorge of the Vorotan river.
