Stop At: Garni Temple, Geghard Monastery Road H3, Garni Armenia
We will visit Garni pagan temple, built in the 1st century, A.D. It has survived after invasions and an earthquake.
The Goght and Azat Rivers meet at Garni, dropping more than 300 feet below the temple site, creating an impenetrable natural fortress above, and a remarkably diverse eco system below. While dry summer winds whip the mountain plain above the canyon rim, below the river forest is always moist and cool: towering trees form a canopy above the foot paths along the river, and wild boar, deer, leopards and bears call the nature preserve home.
Symphony canyon was named for its rock formations, a series of perfectly cut diamond shaped granite, basalt, slag and andesite. Inside the canyon are the remains of a 16th c. bridge, its finely engineered arches at one time leading to a narrow road that surmounted the Geghama mountain range and ended at Lake Sevan.
In Garni, you will have the opportunity to follow as well as particitate in the whole process of how one of the finest jewels of Armenian cuisine is created in a tandoor from formless dough.
Be ready to get that wonderful dizziness-like feeling from the divine smell of warm and crispy lavash taken right from the tandoor.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: The Monastery of Geghard, Geghard Armenia
The Monastery of Geghard is a unique place, where you will be amazed by the only Cave Monastery Complex in the terittory of Armenia built from 12-14 centuries. The place is unique as you can see how monks used to live inside of the caves surrounding the territory of Ghegard Monastery. Here inside of the complex you will see a sacred basin people believe that drinking that water they are becoming blessed.

This was a very disappointing tour - probably the worst I have ever been on. The Armenian guide? had very little knowledge of the sights we were visiting. He seemed to be referring to Google and Wikipedia most of the time. He had to use GPS on his phone while driving, even to leave Yerevan! He gave us very little information and had no idea where to take 6 people for lunch. He was more like a driver than a guide and had it not been for the Armenian lady and her family from the USA, the tour would have been a disaster. Having used the same tour company the day before, i had had very high hopes for this tour, only to be bitterly disappointed.
I really enjoyed this tour. Nina, my tour guide, was very knowledgeable and made the tour entertaining. I got a good history lesson on Armenia, and Armenian culture.
