2-Day Backpacker Colca Canyon Trek from Arequipa

Day 1:

You'll be picked up from your hostel at the ungodly hours of 3am or 3:30am, but don't worry you can catch up on your sleep during the five hour journey to the Cruz del Condor. You'll arrive at this prime sightseeing spot for the majestic Andean Condor at around 8am, so don't forget to bring your camera! After about an hour here, we'll then set off at Pampa San Miguel where we begin our descent into the canyon. After about three or four hours of trekking we will arrive to the first community, San Juan de Chuccho where we will see the Colca river and rest for a while here we have lunch.

We then continue for one more hour to another communities. We then continue walking for one and a half hours until we arrived at an oasis named Palmeras. Here we spend the night in the splendor of the beautiful oasis.

Day 2:

After walking up very early in the morning we will begin our ascent at 4am in the morning towards the town Cabanaconde, this will take us about three hours, depending on the speed of the group. We will arrive at 8am in the morning to the summit. A few more minutes later we arrive to Cabanaconde, the Colca Canyon's largest town. We stop at a local restaurant to have breakfast, 9am approx. Then we take our tourist bus, back to Chivay and finally Arequipa. Our transport will stop at the main viewpoints and local villages of the area before heading to Chivay, the capital of the province. From there we visit the hot waters of la Calera. Highly recommended after a long trek. We return to Chivay to have lunch at a time coordinated with the guide and after we will take the bus that brings us back to Arequipa, arriving around 5pm. The end of tour it will be in your hotel.
