About this activity
DAY 1:

Arequipa to Yanque (Colca Canyon) - Shared

In the morning, you will be met at your hotel and taken on an incredible four hour journey to Yanque.

Have your camera ready as you will stop at various stunning viewpoints including the Pampa Cañahuas Reserve, which is home to many exotic Andean animals including vicuñas, alpacas, llamas, flamingos, ibis and the Andean eagle. You will see astonishing landscapes as you drive past lakes, glaciers and some magnificent volcanoes, such as Ampato, Sabancaya, Huallca and Misti. During the journey we will reach the highest point of 4800m (15,000ft). Afterwards, we head down the canyon to Yanque and transfer you to your hotel. In the afternoon, you will have time to spend at leisure. You can choose from several activities. Enjoy the hot thermal springs of Yanque, set off on a short trek or relax at your hotel while taking in the panoramic view of the beginning of the canyon and its terraces.

DAY 2:

Colca Canyon Tour and back to Arequipa

In the morning we will meet you at your hotel and you will start your tour of the Colca Canyon. We will take you to the most wonderful places in the Colca Canyon. Along the way, we will make a few stops in small Andean villages where time seems to have stood still and Colonial architecture remains to be well saved. We travel along the canyon until we get to ‘Mirador Cruz del Condor’, which is the best viewing point where you can look into the depths of the Colca Canyon.

This viewing point is 1200m deep. From here you will most likely always see a few condors flying with an amazing scenery in the background. You will have the chance for a short hike along the canyon and afterwards, you will enjoy a locally prepared lunch.

Once you have taken in the refreshing air of the Colca Canyon, we will transfer you back to your hotel in Arequipa.

The journey back to Arequipa will take approximately 4 hours through stunning scenery of lakes, glaciers and volcanoes.

It proved difficult to travel to the Colca Canyon on our own and so this tour was a good option. We booked it the day before, the tour guide Liz and the accommodation were brilliant. Value for money. The drive is long and so we got a little fed up on the second day but it was worth staying the night

We had a really good tour, our guide, Juan, was very helpful and knowledgeable about all the areas we discovered during our 2 days. We left from Arequipa and stopped along the way to Chivay several times for photo ops of alpacas and algunas. The next morning, very early, we left for the Canyon and condor sighting viewpoint. We were there an hour and in the first 15 minutes or so we saw 5 or 6 huge condors come flying by! After that though, nothing. We did drive to a few other viewing points but still no more. Good trip overall. Tiring all the bus riding. Also on the way we stopped at one 16,000 ft altitude viewpoint! Cold!

Gorgeous sights, really knowledgeable tour guide, friendly crowd! The guide took the time to get to know us and our interests, and he chatted with me several times about my interest in geology and some of the features/sights we were seeing. He was great about sharing details about history, culture, and geography. Also, my brother with whom I was traveling had been feeling increasingly unwell, and our guide went out of his way to check on him and call over a nurse at one of our rest stops. He helped me pick up the various foods/drinks she prescribed him as a quick fix, and checked in regularly to see how he was doing. My only piece of feedback would be for the description on Viator: I wish it'd been more explicit that there wouldn't be any hiking involved. Granted, being at altitude would have made it difficult regardless, but a little more explanation would've been nice.

This tour could have gone 2 ways, really boring or really informative. Thankfully we got the later. Carlos Lazo was our guide and he was absolutely amazing! He shared so much history and information about the area. He was also very funny and made sure we had everything we needed.
