Rafting Río Majes

We will pick you up from your hotel between 4:30 and 5:00AM and drive about 3.5 hours to the beautiful Majes Valley until reaching the cross section of Rio Andamayo and Rio Colca where we will start your tour. Here, we will eat a Peruvian buffet breakfast of bread, cheese, avocado, tomato, jam, butter, tea and coffee. Before entering the water, our guides will give you a brief lesson on river safety and rescue, as well as explain the role of the rafting guides and the safety kayaker. 
You'll spend an exhilarating 3 hours on the water. The first section of rapids is Class IV with high water and exciting drops. We'll make a brief stop where swimming is an option. After eating a small riverside snack, we will run a series of intense Class III rapids. At the end of your tour, transportation will be waiting to bring everyone to a local restaurant fora delicious shrimp lunch typical of the region.
Next, we will visit the Toro Muerto petroglyphs, an archeological zoo. All the petroglyphs are carved into large volcanic boulders concentrated in a 5 square kilometer area of desert. This dense collection of large volcanic rocks is most likely a result of violent eruptions of the Coropuna and Chachani volcanoes. More than a thousand rocks of all sizes and shapes have been crudely, yet strikingly, engraved with a wide variety of distinct representations. The engravings include images of humans, dancers, snakes, llamas, deer, parrots, sun discs and simple geometric motifs. The petroglyphs are believed to be 1000 to 1500 years old and are largely attributed to the Hauri culture.
After an hour long visit to the Toro Muerto petroglyphs, we will begin the drive back to Arequipa. You will be dropped off at your hotel between 6:30 and 7:00PM.
