Port Orford Ocean Kayaking

About this activity
We meet at the SCT dock office where we have our safety talk and get equipped with wetsuits, booties and personal flotation devices. You get comfortable with your kayak in the calm waters behind the break wall before making the paddle out to Orford Heads. On our way out you can view many different birds, sea lions, whales and harbor seals. This heavily protected head land offers calm waters when it's blowing strong over the rest of the coast. We paddle through kelp forests, offshore rocks and coves until we get to the relics of a US Coast Guard Launch area in the amazing Nellies Cove. There are usually Brown Pelicans, Pigeon Guillemots, Osprey, Cormorants and Common Murres as well as lots of Harbor Seals! Sometimes the seals get close enough to get some good pictures. Often times paddlers experience seeing the migrating or summer resident Gray Whales. Harbor Porpoise are also sometimes seen on this paddle. Round trip usually takes around 2 to 2.5 hours and the paddling difficulty is easy to medium level. Total distance is about 3.65 miles for this tour.
