We travel onto the real Middle-earth™ at the Hobbiton™ Movie Set, where, in the heart of the Waikato region, you step into the lush pastures of the Shire™, as seen in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. On arrival we will have our lunch at the Shire Rest Cafe and then we embark on a magical two hour guided Hobbiton movie set tour.

You will see 44 hobbit holes including Bilbo’s house. “Bag End”, the Mill and double arch bridge and the Party Tree. At this stunning location you can take a photo at the door of Bag End, looking out over the whole of Hobbiton to the hills in the distance. Fall in love with the Alexander family sheep farm, just as acclaimed director Sir Peter Jackson did, as you journey through the natural beauty of the land, with the Kaimai Ranges towering in the distance. Your guide will then escort you around the set, showing the intricate detailing, pointing out the most famous locations and explaining how the movie magic was made.

When you enter the world-famous Green Dragon™ Inn, where you will be presented with a complimentary, exclusive Hobbit™ Southfarthing™ beverage to conclude your own Middle-earth™ adventure.

After your tour you will have time to browse the onsite gift shop before heading back to Auckland.

Your tour begins with a convenient pick-up from your Auckland hotel. From here, head south along the Waikato River, the longest river in New Zealand. Take in the spellbinding beauty of the countryside as you drive by mystical forests and rolling hills dotted with horses, alpacas, and sheep. Stopping for a quick morning coffee before arriving at Waitomo Caves.

After arriving in Waitomo, you set off down an underground tunnel into the belly of the caves. Pass beneath a soaring subterranean ceiling with cathedral-like limestone spires. Board a small boat, which takes you down the river and through the caves. As you sail serenely through the darkness, marvel at the glowworms twinkling above you like stars.
