About this activity
Your tour begins as soon as all guests have been picked up from their accommodation. Your tour guide will then give you an overview (in English) of the island and the many points of interest you will see along the way. You’ll enjoy a light refreshment and convenient stop where you will have the opportunity to purchase locally crafted gifts & souvenirs. Here your guide will give you a demonstration on the Cook Islands Tree of Life, the coconut tree and explain its many uses. Your sightseeing tour continues on to a number of historical sites including one of the first limestone churches built on the island in the 1800s, the Garden of the Seven Canoes at Avana Passage, as well as Black Rock - a volcanic boulder on the edge of the lagoon, traditionally believed to be the departure point of spirits to Avaiki (the afterlife). Along the way you will catch a glimpse of the Needle Lookout which is a volcanic outcrop that marks the centre of the island and is one of its highest points. Plantations of citrus, bananas, tapioca, papaya and taro and other crops line your route on this informative scenic drive. The Island Discovery Tour is a great way to see the many points of interest on the island before heading out on your own and also gives you an insight on our history, culture, traditions and our people which we look forward to sharing with you.

We had a lovely time touring around Rarotonga with our driver a lovely man named Andre. He was so full of information about the history of the island and made stops for us a couple of times as well. We had lovely refreshments and dropped back at our hotel in time for an afternoon nana nap. Thanks Andre

This tour was a great way to introduce us to Rarotonga and to learn about life on the island. Our tour guide James was very knowledgeable. He explained some of the Maori history and how the island is divided into districts with chiefs. He also explained the political arrangement with New Zealand. Our light refreshment stop was more like lunch with all manner of fruit and banana bread. James also showed us how coconut is opened and its importance to the island. It was great to eat fresh coconut Thank you James, Kevin and Jenny.
