History, Chocolate and Wine Tour of Provence from Avignon

1 day
About this activity
Wonderful day in Provence's history, and Provence's "gourmandise". You will taste local products such as olive oil and discover the amazing combination of wine and chocolate in Châteauneuf du Pape; does the chocolate match the wine,? You will discover it. It's adventure ! This trip also points out the historical heritage of Provence through the visit to local Roman monuments such as the Pont du Gard, a 2000-year old Roman aqueduct bridge, or the world's oldest and most well-preserved antic theater in Orange. Discover also Uzès a beautiful medieval city near the famous Pont du Gard. For over 15 centuries, the prosperous medieval market and cathedral town of Uzès (pronounced “ee-oo-ZESS”) has been intimately linked to local and French history.

Our guide, Jean-Baptiste, was excellent: knowledgeable, personable, flexible and all around great. He gave us great lessons and insights on wine in general and particularly Rhone Valley wines and some of the towns, villages and estates. This was interspersed with many amusing insights and anecdotes along the way. The only minor issue we had with the tour was that the chocolate part of the tour was merely one stop at a touristy chocolate shop that didn't seem all that special. We had seen a couple of really great boutique chocolate shops in Nimes a couple of days prior and specifically refrained from buying from them because we anticipated much more from the chocolate part of the History, Chocolate and Wine tour we had arranged a few days later. Nevertheless, it was a wonderful day and my friends and I all had a great time and learned a lot.
