São Miguel Northeast tour

About this activity

You'll set off towards the center of the Furnas parish, where you'll stop for lunch, but before and along the coast of the island of São Miguel, you'll stop at the Caloura fishing port to highlight one of the economic activities of our community and at the same time, appreciate the beauty that this place offers.

In Vila Franca do Campo you'll stop at the viewpoint of the hermitage of N. S. da Paz, where you can see the Vila Franca do Campo, and sometimes the island of Sta Maria.
Around 12:00 you will be at the Furnas lake, taste the famous Cozido das Furnas, a traditional recipe prepared on volcanic soil at high temperatures in all restaurants of the area.
After exploring this quiet locality and having seen the fumaroles, the springs of hot water, you'll head towards the Northeast.

Before arriving to the Northeast, we passed through Povoação, where the settlement of the island of São Miguel began and in this locality, we stop next to the monument ”Portas do Povoamento”, an allegorical monument at the beginning of the settlement.

Along the route and before reaching the Northeast, you'll make some stops in different viewpoints and parks, where it is possible to see the seafront of the island in this zone of the island of São Miguel.

After seeing, exploring and getting to know this picturesque village of the island of São Miguel (Northeast) you'll go towards the waterfall and Park Ribeira dos Caldeirões, a point of great tourist interest, not only due to its beautiful waterfalls but also to its dazzling park.

At the end of our tour we will take a guided tour to one of the existing tea factories on the island of São Miguel, where we will introduce you to the whole history and the whole process of tea making and where you'll enjoy a cup of tea of this factory.
