About this activity
"Maiden's Tower" and the first meeting with the old city.

Our excursion will begin near the most ancient symbol of Baku - "The Maiden Tower". I will tell you what was its purpose in different periods of history and tell all its legends and secrets (there are very, very many of them). At your request, we will go into the tower itself and from its top to admire the Old Town - "Icheri Sheher" (in translation means "Inner City"). Further, after examining the palace of the Hajiyevs (with a glorious and tragic fate), we will pass behind the fortress walls and find ourselves in the fabulous atmosphere of the Ancient City. We will examine the ancient excavations, crypts, caravanserais, baths and mosques. Everything that is located in the lower, seaside part of the ancient city-fortress. We will look into the most remote and secret places, about which many tourists do not even guess (and about others they know, but spend hours wandering around the mazes of "Icheri Sheher", they try in vain to find them.

A walk along the city wall and palaces of oil magnates.

Then we for a while will leave the Old City and examine the outer part of the city wall. I will show you a place where two millennia seem to meet with each other. We will walk along the fantastically beautiful Governor's garden, see the secret passage of the ancient fortress and see the building of the Baku Philharmonic. We will walk to one of the most beautiful buildings in Baku - the Palace of Happiness (which, ironically, has one of the most tragic stories in this city). We will pass by many historical buildings - the residence of the Rothschilds, the Sadikhovs' house, Ismailia and many others. I will tell you the story of each of them.

The palace of the Shirvanshahs, the sanctuary and narrow streets of the old city.

We will pass to the upper part of the "Icheri Sheher" and examine the palace of Shirvanshahs, the Khan's house and the fortifications of the city wall, as well as visit the workshop of the famous artist Ali Shamsi. Back we will pass along the authentic, narrow inner street, Baku Museum of Miniature Books, Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography, past the local sanctuary - the house in which Saint Mir Movsum Aga lived (who, according to the belief, had no bones). A lot of interesting stories and legends will be waiting for you all the way back.
