Since it was closed for security reasons, in 1982, the Hercilio Luz Bridge serves only as a postcard, a landmark and embellishment of the city. The nightmare of collapse has become a constant in people's lives. That fear, however, was eliminated on the very day when the bridge turned 71 years old. The classic work of international engineering has been classified as historical and artistic heritage.

The city's first parish was founded along one of the points that is still one of the most traditional: Lagoa da Conceição. Some colonial buildings are still preserved. At the top of Morro da Lagoa, also known as Morro das Sete Voltas (or blows), near the old deactivated hotel is the journalist point of view Manoel de Menezes, from where you can see almost all parts of the lagoon (South and North), the avenue of the tenants, the wide expanse of dunes, Mole beach, Xavier Island, Praia da Joaquina, Campeche Beach and a tip of Campeche Island.

Joaquina or Joaca Beach, as it is nicknamed by locals, is the "high" beach. Generally chilled, they have already been launched by big names in the surf, hosting national and even world championships. The surfing events, realised since the 70s, have given international recognition to Joaquina.
