2-Day Kanchanaburi River Kwai Float House Experience
Thailand’s Kanchanaburi region has all the ingredients for a fabulous stay: winding rivers, waterfalls suitable for bathing, the construction of the Bridge over the River Kwai during the Second World War and an abundance of natural splendour where other destinations only can dream about. Embark on a 2 day journey with an overnight on a 90-square meter floating villa where the calm waves of the Kwae Noi River will rock every guest to a comfortable sleep with nothing but nature around them.
Guests will be picked from centrally located hotels in Bangkok on joined basis early in the morning. Depending on the route, pick-up time will be between 06:00 and 06:30 hrs. Your driver will make its way out of Bangkok in western direction towards one of Thailand’s largest provinces where should arrive at around 09:00 hrs. Kanchanaburi Town will be our first stop, 130 kilometres away from the Thai capital where we first gain an insight in the history of the region. The permanent, interactive Thailand–Burma Railway Centre shows visitors the complete history of the Thai- Burma railway, depicted in one of Hollywood’s most classic movies from 1957. Following this experience, we head to the Allied War Cemetery which is memorial to some 6000 allied prisoners of war (POWs) who perished along the death railway line before making our way to the world famous bridge. A short drive and a long tail boat ride upstream to our floating resort is the start of the afternoon, where a visit to a nearby ethnic Mon Tribal Village is included. Lunch is included at the River Kwai Float House before going to the Mon Village. In the evening, local Mon residents will entertain you with a 45-minute traditional dance performance after you enjoy a Thai set dinner. Overnight will be at one of the most existing resorts in the Kanchanaburi region.
Day two starts with a healthy breakfast, on top of the Kwae Noi River and its serene surroundings. In the morning, a short downstream long tail boat ride brings you to the Hellfire Pass, where part of the planned railway connecting Myanmar and Thailand had to go through large rock formations. We check out of our resort and will head to a local restaurant for lunch before taking the train over the Death Railway back towards Kanchanaburi, the labour of the thousands of Allied POW’s. In Kanchanaburi, our driver for these 2 days will comfortably bring you back to Bangkok, where we expect to arrive at around 18:00 hrs at your centrally-located hotel.
