Full-Day Exploring Thai Contemporary Society in Bangkok

We will pick you up from your hotel at around 8am. Your guide will give an insight into the different contexts of the country’s historical perspective and politics. This will provide a solid grounding for the rest of the day’s interesting activities. Depending on the location of your hotel, the order of visiting the museums is flexible.

Like many other societies, the Thai labor movement has had a strong influence on society and the country and the Thai Labor Museum explains this concisely. The museum is situated in a quaint single-story red building near the Makkasan Railway Station. It was originally the railway police station; it then became the railway labor union office; and eventually the existing museum in 1993.

Next stop is the Siriraj Hospital which has played an integral part in shaping Thailand’s social care and welfare movement. It is the oldest and largest hospital in the country, located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. The hospital houses the Siriraj Medical Museum with six separate permanent exhibits and it includes a temporary exhibit. The permanent exhibits include sections on all medical aspects and traditional healthcare.

One of the latest additions is the Bangkok Art and Culture Center. This mid-town facility takes a contemporary approach towards various forms of the performing art movement, both domestically as well as on an international level. It has become a popular hang-out for artists and the growth of cultural programs for the art-minded community, and it reveals how the country’s creative sector has developed.

These three museum visits will give a definitive insight into how the country’s labor movement, health and social welfare, and creative sectors have developed in modern times. Participants will end the tour deeply enriched with a greater understanding of the country’s social and artistic development. After this day, we head back to your hotel where you will approximately arrive at 6pm.
