About this activity
Start your full-day tour of the Historic City of Ayutthaya, a World Heritage site, with hotel pickup in Bangkok. After the approximate 1.5-hour drive to Bang Pa-in, you’ll depart by bike from the railway station to the ancient Thai capital.
Follow your guide past the royal palace, and then board a cargo ferry to cross the Chao Phraya River. Continue your journey to the island of Ayutthaya, pedaling along back lanes and riverside settlements north to the ancient city established in 1350. You’ll pass by Wat Phutthai Sawan and the 17th-century St Joesph’s Church before a visit to the vast complex of Wat Chai Wattanaram, one of Ayutthaya's best-known temples based in Ayutthaya Historical Park.
After a look at this 16th-century temple, take a break for a riverside Thai lunch with a scenic view of Sri Suriyothai Park and the ruins of the royal palace. After lunch, cross the river to explore the city's ancient monuments on your bike, starting with Wat Lokayasutharam (Temple of the Reclining Buddha). The next stop is Wat Phra Sri Sanphet, which served as the prototype for the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Your guide points out a Buddha image cradled by a strangler fig at Wat Mahathat (Temple of the Great Relics) before taking you back to Bangkok by minivan to end your day trip.
This bike tour also includes local Thai snacks that you'll find along the way, as well as nonalcoholic beverages such as juice, water or soft drinks.
