About this activity
Our guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel and drive towards Bang Krachao, one of the most fertile places in Bangkok and also known as the Green Lungs of Bangkok. Without traffic, one reaches this oasis in just under 30 minutes.
Upon arrival at the island, we will explore the region from north to south, east to west. This place is a surprisingly well-maintained place as the ongoing endeavors to keep Bang Krachao as it is right now, are actively supported by the Royal Family of Thailand. Outside of its ecological importance, many of the Mon settlers have taken it upon themselves to start small farms and cultivate fruits and vegetables, using the many canals as irrigation sources.
The best way to get up and close with the community and farming methods is by bicycle and walking. We meander around the island and around every corner pops up a new sight that hasn’t been fully explored. Lunch is included at a local restaurant.
We visit venues such as the Soi Nakorn Kurn Kun Royal Park (a great place to feed the many fish that inhabit these waters), the Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market (void of mass tourism!) and the Bang Nam Puang Nok Temple. The temple is a perfect example of the beauty of Thai Buddhist temples and is maintained by the local community. Be prepared to see the locals engaging in activities over the weekend but this just adds charm to the experience.
Our day will end via a museum dedicated to Fighting Fish species and a botanical garden where one get the chance to take a small break. Again, during the weekends, these places are growing in popularity with the locals that seek out the serene scenery with lots of places to chill and enjoy the surroundings.
Your whole trip is encapsulated with local surprises, a plethora of flora and fauna and magnificent views over the Chao Phraya River with Bangkok’s skyline clearly visible in the background. We head back to your hotel in the late afternoon and in time to make it back to your hotel at around 6pm.
