PRESTIGE TOUR
These tours begin amid the superb elegance of the old Renaissance-style Lobby. Visitors then proceed to the Auditorium, an exact replica of the original horseshoe-shaped hall designed by the architect Miquel Garriga i Roca in 1847. It can seat almost 2,300 and all the operas, concerts, recitals and dance performances in the main season are held here. Then comes the Mirror Hall, which for many years was the favourite gathering spot of the Catalan upper middle classes. Nowadays a wide variety of activities are organized here and are attended by people from all walks of life.
The tour concludes in the Cercle del Liceu, a British-style private club founded in 1847, which is part and parcel of the opera house premises. It houses one of the finest Art Nouveau collections in Catalonia. In its lavishly decorated rooms, visitors can admire a unique collection of paintings by artists such as Ramon Casas, Modest Urgell, Santiago Rusiñol, Francesc Miralles and Alexandre de Riquer.
