Cruise Ship Only Guided Cycling Tour To Kawakawa Along The Twin Coast Trail

About this activity
When you arrive at Waitangi wharf, please walk to the end of the jetty (50 metres) where a member of the team will be holding a board with your name on it. You will be transported to our offices in Opua Marina which are at the start of the Twin Coast Cycle Trail. Here you will collect your bike and helmet, while being introduced to your guide for the day.
Opua is centered around a pretty marina.
The trail begins alongside the marina and follows a pretty estuary edged with mangroves – a classic sight along New Zealand’s northern coasts. Your guide will point out things of interest as you proceed along the trail.
The trail then runs beside the tracks of the Bay of Islands Vintage Steam Railway and crosses the beautifully restored bridge to reach cute little Taumarere Station, a nice photo op and good place to pause for a snack.
This section ends all too soon at the bustling rural town of Kawakawa where you will find one of Northland’s looniest tourism attractions – the Huntervasser toilets adorned with mosaic tiles, sculptures, cobblestone floors and a grassy roof. Cafes, shops, a museum and local Māori artists can also be found in the town.
When you have completed your stay in Kawakawa you will be transported back to either Paihia where there is a range of places to shop and eat, or back to Waitangi wharf. There is a free shuttle bus from Paihia back to the wharf a journey that takes less than 10 minutes.
