About this activity
Join your guide for a prompt 08:45 departure from Bayeux in a modern air conditioned vehicle and visit:
Longues Sur Mer - German coastal gun battery installation. Get up close and see the impressive remains of this formidable German defensive position that was built to deter an allied landing in Normandy. As this is the only site in Normandy that still has the guns remaining in situ, you will no doubt be impressed by how the allies finally managed to silence them and continue the push inland.
Gold Beach - Asnelles. Gold Beach was the code name for one of the five landing beaches in Normandy. British soldiers were tasked with landing here on the morning of June 6th, 1944. You will hear stories of the assault plan, the actual landing operation and, the bravery of the men that managed to smash through the German defenses.
Mulberry Artificial Harbor - Once the British forces had managed to secure the Gold Beach sector, work started to assemble one of the two artificial harbors. Code named Mulberry, this artificial port concept would feed the allies need for material to continue the battle of Normandy. The remnants of this incredible construction project are still visible off the coast.
Juno Beach - Courseulles-Sur-Mer. Further down the coast, Canadian forces were given the task of smashing through German defenses at a location that was code named Juno Beach. At this site, the guide will explain Canada's role in the Normandy invasion and how the brave Canadian soldiers completed their operations. At this site, clients can utilise their time to visit the Juno Beach Center; the only museum in Normandy dedicated to the Canadian's. Please note that if you wish to visit the center, the entrance fee is not included in the price and, you will need to forego the visit by our guide.
Canadian Cemetery - Beny-Sur-Mer. On our way back to Bayeux, we will stop and show you a Canadian War Cemetery. You will have time to reflect on the loss suffered by the Canadian's who fought in the battle of Normandy.
We will return to Bayeux and drop off at the tour departure point centrally located in the heart of the city.
