About this activity
Meet your guide at the tour departure point in Bayeux for a prompt 08:45 departure. As we travel between sites on board a modern air conditioned vehicle, your guide will use this time to share as much information as possible before arriving at each point.
Longues sur mer - Our first stop will be at the incredible German coastal gun battery north of Bayeux. This impressive site is the only remaining fortification in Normandy that is still equipped with the guns that were firing on D-Day.
Gold Beach - This section of coastline was designated to the British to assault. You will see the remnants of German fortifications and your guide give great detail of how British soldiers finally made it inland.
Artificial Harbor - Code named Mulberry, the artificial harbors that were built by the allies were crucial in supplying the inland push to liberate Normandy. You will see the impressive remains and learn about their construction and, vital role they played post D-Day success.
Juno Beach - We will turn our attention to the Canada's involvement on D-Day and learn how Canadian forces triumphed at the coast now known as Juno Beach. At this location, clients can utilise their time to visit the impressive Juno Beach Center Museum. Entrance fee to the museum is not included in the price of the tour.
Canadian War Cemetery - We will visit the cemetery at Beny-Sur-Mer and pay our respects to the fallen Canadian's who lost their lives in the battle of Normandy.
Lunch stop - We will return to Bayeux to allow you time to have lunch. One hour is provided for lunch but please note that lunch is not included in the price of the tour.
Pointe Du Hoc - After lunch, we will continue to the American Omaha sector of the D-Day landings. Our first stop in this sector is another German Coastal gun battery. As you will have already seen a German battery in the morning section of the tour, you will be able to contrast the differences between them and, see the aftermath of the incredible allied bombardments.
Omaha Beach - Our focus will now to turn to the US forces and, their beach landing at Omaha. At this point in the tour you will be very familiar with German fortifications and the allied plan of assault. Your guide will explain why this beach is known as, "Bloody Omaha" and, how German forces managed to contain American troops for as long as they did!
American Cemetery - To conclude this tour, we will stop at the stunning cemetery at Colleville. Pay your respects to the nearly ten thousand men and women that are buried here. See the perfectly aligned crosses and witness the moving taps ceremony. This is a fitting end to a very educational and, emotional day.
At the end of the tour, we will finish at the tour departure point at the center of Bayeux.
