Stop At: Forbidden City-The Palace Museum, Beijing
The fan painting is a traditional Chinese art with a long history. In the Song and Yuan Dynasties around 1.000 years ago, fan painting was widely popular. After the Ming Dynasty, folding fan painting became even more attractive to the literati and artists. With this hundreds of years of history, fan painting has become an important part of the treasures from Chinese culture and arts. Find your way to a traditional Chinese courtyard located near the Forbidden City (Address 28 Zhong Lao Hutong). There you will learn about the cultural heritage of Chinese ink painting, and you will practice through a simple image using several basic techniques of Chinese painting. You teacher will show the main points to draw in the fan with the ink, so you can create your own fan. Classes can be taken in the morning starting at 10:00 am or in the afternoon starting at 02:00 pm. Once finished, you can bring your new handcraft back home.
