About this activity
After morning pickup at your Beijing hotel, travel in a private vehicle to the Longqing Gorge (Longqingxia Gorge), located about 55 miles (90 km) north of downtown Beijing. Flanked on both sides by green peaks and capped to the north by the Gucheng Reservoir, built in 1981, the gorge offers peaceful yet dramatic scenery of wooded mountains, curious stones, and karst caves. During a 1.5-hour cruise through the ravine, feel the gentle breeze blowing against your face and enjoy the view of passing attractions like Baihua (Hundred Flowers) Cave and the Shenxianyuan (Immortal) and Jingang temples.
After the morning boat ride, enjoy a lunch of regional cuisine at a famer's house. Continue on to the Guyaju caves, a multi-village complex of more than 170 dwellings carved directly into the rock face. Believed to have been carved by an ethnic minority called the Xiyi between the Tang and Liao Dynasties, the remarkable caves resemble 'ant farms for humans' and consist of rooms of varying shapes and styles complete with doors, windows, kitchen ranges, and closets.
After the full-day tour is finished, you will be transferred back to your hotel in downtown Beijing.

Wonderful day trip out of Beijing with May and her driver from Lilies Tour. Picked us up at our hotel and on our the way to the gorge gave us some history about Beijing and China. If you are going to Beijing and have more than a couple of days in the city or if it is your second trip to Beijing, I highly recommend you make the venture out to the Longqingxia Gorge and historic Guyaju Caves. What a spectacular sight to behold. The river cruise is nothing but picturesque and relaxing. The stunning flat rock formations covered in green plant life is a natural wonder and will leave you feeling relaxed and peaceful, especially if you have been enveloped in the busy city life for a few days. The caves are a completely different and absolutely remarkable piece of human history. You will be impressed at the multi level rooms that were built at some point in history by unknown dwellers. If you have children like I do (11, 9 and 7) this park will be a complete blast for them. An authentic and delicious lunch was also provided. Want to give many many thanks to our wonderful tour guide Jack that gave us lots of great information and gave us a first class experience. Thanks Jack! So glad we were able to do this tour on the final leg of our China tour.
I just arrived back from a trip to Beijing and this was definitely the highlight of the holiday - a must see for anyone visiting Beijing! Longqingxia Gorge is a place of incredible beauty and due to it being relatively unkown to tourists is very peaceful unlike many of the heavily visited areas. The boat ride was great and the scenery all around you from both the boat and whilst on foot is truly stunning. The Guyaju caves are also very intersting to see and are one of only a very few places around that you can see such an example of these type of ancient dwellings. My tour guide Lily from Lily's Beijing Tour Guide and Car Service was really fantastic. She was very friendly, knowledgable and extremely helpful, both in terms of providing suggestions on other locations to visit depending upon your particular interests and also recommending places to go for food or just to grab a drink. She also spoke fluent English which is by no means Always the case when doing tours in Beijing.
