About this activity

Your day in Beijing begins in the morning with greetings from your very own English-speaking local guide at your hotel lobby. Learn to say “Ni Hao!” (“hello” in Chinese) with a big smile and friendly handshake!

Your guide will accompany you in a private, air-conditioned vehicle first to visit the Tiananmen (“Gate of Heavenly Peace”) Square, the symbolic political centre of modern China, and the world’s largest city square at 440,000 sq meters. Considered one of the top tourist attractions in Beijing, the square is home to a plethora of rich Chinese history, from the Memorial Hall of Chairman Mao to the National Museum of China, and the Great Hall of the People. With introductions from your experienced guide, you’ll have a taste of China’s heritage with treasured artefacts to explore, beautiful architecture to admire and unique Chinese traditions to witness.

Through the Meridian Gate, the formal entrance into The Forbidden City, you will step into China’s splendid history by spending a couple of hours exploring this impressive and historically important palatial complex. A total of 24 Chinese Emperors used to live and rule from here, starting with the Ming dynasty and ending with the Qing dynasty. Your guide will show you through the palace and its gardens and on route provide some interesting insights into Imperial life.

Before continuing your tour to the Great Wall you’ll enjoy lunch at a local restaurant to taste some delicious dumplings, a Beijing favourite, or Kung Pao chicken, Peking Roast Duck, whatever your stomach favours. Food is another great way of diving into the local ambience and having a glimpse of how the locals live and eat.

After lunch you’ll travel to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, a 90-minute drive out of the city. The Great Wall dates back to the Northern Qi Dynasty (550-557). Then again it was rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty (1368 -1644) to provide a protective defence barrier to guard the capital and imperial mausoleums from invaders.

Mutianyu is considered one of the most diverse, as well as being one of the best-preserved sections of the Wall. It’s also a typically less-crowded section, recommended as being the most family friendly, easier for those with young children to navigate. You’ll have about two hours to mount the ramparts, view the Watch Towers and gaze over the breath taking scenery.

One day in Beijing concludes in the late afternoon with your local guide taking you back to hotel with memories of this diverting city.

Your fully inclusive tour, as the name suggests, includes all entrance fees, the return tickets by cable car or chair lift or the alternative combination route of chair lift up/toboggan descent at Mutianyu, and a delicious lunch of local food. Should you choose to adjust your routes, changes can be made by discussing with your guide to accommodate your preferences.
