Stop At: Lama Temple (Yonghegong), No.12 Yonghegong Street, Beixinqiao, Dongcheng District, Beijing 100007 China

Meet your guide by the Lama Temple’s ticket office to start this half day walking tour in Beijing.

First you will visit the Lama Temple, the most celebrated Buddhist temple in Beijing and a temple of the Geluk School of Tibetan Buddhism. It is one of the largest and most influential in China, and was the only temple to have been said to have survived the Cultural Revolution. Take in the architecture and the oasis of calm amidst one of the most buzzing historic districts in the city.

After the Lama Temple, your guide will lead you to a stroll through Chengxian Street where there are many small shops that sell traditional trinkets and featured souvenirs. You will pass the Confucius Temple and Guozijian, which was the national central institution for higher learning during the era of Chinese dynasties.

At the end of this street, you will see Laoshi Dumpling Restaurant, a famous place both for locals and tourists. This restaurant is highly recommended if you want to try Beijing dumplings (Own expense)

Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Bell and Drum Towers, Di'anmen Wai Main Street, Dongcheng District, Beijing 100006 China

After lunch, you will take a stroll around the area to meet up with your rickshaw driver who will take you to explore the hutong area. You will also have the chance to check out a local home for a glimpse of what life is like for a local “Beijinger”.

At the end of your rickshaw ride, you will climb to the top of the Drum Tower where you can watch the daily traditional drum beating ceremony (1:30 pm or 2:30 pm) which was used as a tool for time keeping during the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. Then, enjoy a tea ceremony at a traditional China tea house before your stroll to the lake area.
