About this activity
After picking you up from your centrally located hotel in Beijing, it takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to get to Mutianyu Great Wall. Once you are there, hiking with your experienced tour guide with amazing view and historic stories. Mutianyu is a section of the Great Wall of China located in Huairou County 70km northeast of Beijing. The Mutianyu section of the Great Wall is connected with Jiankou in the west and Lianhuachi in the east. As one of the best-preserved parts of the Great Wall, the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall used to serve as the northern barrier defending the capital and the imperial tombs.
This section has been renovated since 1986 and a famous and ideal section of the Great Wall if you look for a half-day tour to the Great Wall with moderate hiking. Take the cable car or chair lift up the wall and allow yourself spending 1 to 2 hours hiking up and down from one section to another if you wish to see several watch towers and parts of walls. You can take the exhilarating toboggan ride back down the wall on a winding metal track.
For the lunch, we will take you to the authentic Chinese local restaurant catering for the locals, you also can choose the option at the western style - Subway fast food restaurant.
On the way back hotel, you can visit the village near the Mutianyu Wall or if its the fruits season you can go and visit the orchards at the village! Fruits picking-up is one of fun activities.
After your tour, your tour guide will send you back to your hotel in Beijing.

This was the highlight of our round the world trip. After spending the first day on a group tour rushed and tired, this private tour was amazing. We were picked up on time and at the location we listed and driven in an air conditioned, well maintained van to the great wall. Cynthia was hands down the best tour guide we have experienced- she spoke good english and was happy to give us information on any part of China. Cynthia was great with our three kids- who warmed to her within minutes of being in the car. We enjoyed her company that much we booked another tour with her 2 days later! The tour was flexible and Cynthia and the driver were happy to stop off at the local village to buy some fresh fruit and umbrellas. The Mutianyu part of the wall is gorgeous, it has been repaired over the years and is well maintained. There are some good souvenior shops and restaraunts near the ticket office, including a great spot for lunch where we got some tasty, well priced meals. There is an open chair lift and enclosed cable car to get to the top- try the open chair lift- it has amazing views and is not as packed. For those wanting a hassle free day trip to the wall book this- and ask for Cynthia!
Only way to see the great wall, our guide, Jimmy picked us up at the Hotel at 8:00 with a driver and took us to Mutianyu - which is the less crowded option close to Beijing. We rode the cable car to the top at tower 14, hiked up to tower 20 and then down to tower 6, where we took an alpine slide to the base. Guide took us to a nice local restaurant 20 minutes away from the wall, where locals go for lunch and we had a wonderful lunch and then back to Beijing by 3pm. Saw what we wanted to see, great, hassle free experience.
