Day 1: Beijing to Datong Yungang Grottoes - Nine Dragon Screen
Stop At: Yungang Grottoes, Wuzhou Mountain, Urban Area, Datong 37000 China
Your driver comes to pick you up at you hotel in Beijing at 8:00am, and your will start your 4.5-hour journey to Datong.
For lunch, you'll have local handmade sliced noodles, a very popular meal in Northwest region of China. After the lunch, You will visit Yungang Grottoes , a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 53 grottoes contain more than 50,000 Buddihist statues and stretch for about 1 km (0.5 miles) east to west.

Stop At: Nine Dragon Screen, Yanghe Street, Cheng District, Datong 037000 China
Then, you will visit the Nine-Dragon Screen at the Palace Museum. There are three pieces of dragon screen in China, and this is the biggest one in China. The 426 azure stones that compose the dragons have also keep their gloss and grandeur over 600 years.
After the tour, you will be transferred to your hotel in Datong (please book your own hotel in advance).

Day 2: Hengshan Hanging Temple - Wooden Pagoda - Beijing
Stop At: Hengshan Hanging Temple (Xuankong si), Hengshan, Datong China
After checking out from the hotel in the morning, you'll travel to the 1,500-year-old Hengshan Hanging Temple (Xuankong si).
The Hanging Temple is one of the main tourist attractions and historical sites in the Datong area. This temple is notable not only for its location on a sheer precipice but also because it is the only existing temple with the combination of three Chinese traditional religions: Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism.
For lunch, enjoy a traditional local food.

Stop At: Ying Xian Wooden Pagoda, 76km (47 miles) south of Datong, Datong China
In the afternoon, you will go to the Yinxian County to visit the famous Wooden Pagoda. Based on Liao Dynasty structure, Ying Xian Wooden Pagoda was built in 1056. The wooden pagoda is one of the planet´s oldest wooden buildings. Not a single nail was used in the construction of the nine-story, 67m-high structure, which has thus far survived seven major earthquakes.
After the tour, you will be transferred back to Beijing following a 4.5-hour journey.

This tour was a side trip for us and was well worth it. We left Beijing in comfort. When we arrived to Datong we were met by a local guide who took us to the grottoes and Hanging Monastery, which are incredible. We also saw some other site which was great before going back in comfort to Beijing.
