About this activity
Day 1: Beijing - Datong - Yungang Grottoes - Nine-Dragon Screen (L)

Your driver will pick you up from your hotel in Beijing at 7:00am and heading directly to Datong city, it will take about 4-5 hours. On the way you will enjoy the beautiful countryside view, sit back and enjoy the sceneries along the way. Your local guide will meet you in Datong city.

Once arrive at Datong, meet your friendly tour guide, and enjoy a delicious lunch in the local restaurant.

In the afternoon, you will first visit the Yungang Grottoes, a World Cultural Heritage Site since 2001. Afterwards visit the Nine-Dragon Screen which was built for the Prince Hongwu. It is presently the oldest and largest glazed screen in China.

Then, you will be transferred to your accommodation in Datong (please book your own accommodation in Datong in advance)

Day 2: Datong - Hanging Monastery - Wooden Pagoda - Beijing (L)

Your tour guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel in the morning, then head to the Hanging Temple directly which is around 1.5 hours drive, enjoy the countryside when driving, your tour guide will share some histories and stories along the way. Hanging Temple is one of China's most unique and remarkable feats of wooden architecture. The Hanging Temple is the only one built in honor to Sakyamuni, Laozi, and Confucius, who are founders of Buddism, Taoism and Confucianism respectively.

You will stop at a local restaurant for lunch.

In the afternoon, continue your trip to Yinxian County to visit the famous Wooden Pagoda. The Wooden Pagoda was built in 1056 (Liao Dynasty). It is one of the planet's oldest wooden buildings in the world. Not a single nail was used in the construction of the nine-story, 67m-high structure, which has thus far survived seven major earthquakes.

After your tour finished, you driver will transfer you back to Beijing city which will take around 4 to 5 hours.

Note: You may have a Chinese-speaking driver from Beijing to Datong and back, your local English speaking tour guide will meet you in Datong to show you around the sites for two days.
