About this activity
After meeting your guide in your hotel lobby in Beijing, you will be transferred to the airport to take flight to Shanghai.
Pick you up from airport, then you will start your exciting full-day tour.
First you will go to the Jade Buddha Temple, which was founded in 1882 under the reign of Emperor Guangxu during the Qing Dynasty with two jade Buddha statues that were imported into Shanghai from Burma by sea. Nowadays there is also a marble reclining Buddha statue donated from Singapore.
After visiting the Jade Temple, we will visit the Shanghai Confucian Temple, which is also known as Shanghai Wen Miao. The temple was built in 1855, on the site of the Zitong Clan Temple. It’s most recent restoration was undertaken in 1999, to celebrate Confucius’ 2,550th birthday. This temple doesn’t only honor one of ancient China’s most important thinkers, but is also a refuge from the buzzing Old Town. There is a market located right outside the temple if you want to purchase some souvenirs to take home.
Lunch will be in a local restaurant for some delicious Chinese food.
Before entering the Yu Garden, you will go for a tea ceremony at the oldest tea house in Shanghai. If you thought tea tasting was easy, just watch the intricate processes involved in making the tea – a process that differs for each type of tea.
The last stop of this tour is the Yu Garden, the city’s most famous example of the traditional gardens as historically kept by wealthy families in the Ming & Qing Dynasties. This traditional garden was first conceived in 1559, and is still a masterpiece of beautiful pavilions, miniature lakes, bridges and rock formations regardless of being damaged numerous times during the 19th century. After exploring the gardens, spend time wandering through the markets and bazaars of Shanghai’s Old Town. This is the perfect opportunity to get souvenir shopping done while soaking up the atmosphere of old Shanghai.
After this, you will be transferred to the airport in Shanghai. Once you arrive in the airport in Beijing, you will be picked up and bring you back to your hotel in Beijing City center.
